APRIL 2020 - OMO WASHING POWDER PRINT ADVERT

The next task during lockdown was to go through the OMO slides and complete the activities. Key Points: 1. Women's roles were stereotyped - but it is not as simple as saying 'in the old days women stayed home - the 1950s came shortly after the 2nd world war where many women had gone to do 'mens' jobs. 2. The advert uses stereotypes to have mass appeal and to create a fear of missing out from those who don't have this product. 3. Advertising in the UK nowadays is not allowed to use blatant stereotypes because of the ASA - in particular, the rule changes in 2019.

LATE MARCH 2020 - GALAXY ADVERT

Lockdown began. Work was circulated mainly through SMH. The Galaxy Advert with a CGI Audrey Hepburn tasks were sent to you for you to complete. Key Points: 1. The advert is eye-catching because of the amazing CGI that brings a dead 1950s icon back to life. 2. The advert trades on ETHOS & NOSTALGIA to persuade AUDIENCES to buy the brand of chocolate. 3. It's very important that we understand the NARRATIVE & the MISE-EN-SCENE.

MARCH 2020 - INTERNET RADIO - APPLE BEATS

This unit explores Julie Adenuga's Apple Beats radio show. Key Points: 1. Even though it's radio, it is essential that they have video content due to modern listening habits. 2. The target AUDIENCE - is a NICHE MARKET - fans of hip-hop etc. - unlike Radio 1 which is MAINSTREAM. 3. The choice of DJ shows DIVERSITY (all the DJs in 1967 Radio 1 were white men).

END OF FEBRUARY 2020 - RADIO

We began to look at the introduction of Radio 1 to the public, in 1967. Key Points: 1. Radio 1 was set up to try to stop people listening to pirate radio stations. 2. DECEMBER 2019 ALSO - CLASS 'Co owner...) 2016

Next up in December we looked at how CINEMATOGRAPHY, MISE-EN-SCENE & REPRESENTATIONS OF GENDER & SEXUALITY have changed over time. Key Points: 1. We need to understand what PSB means - the BBC is a Public Service Broadcaster and has things the government tells it to do - this called its REMIT. 2. Its remit in recent years has been more DIVERSITY in REPRESENTATION. 3. Class has gay characters - no chance of that in 1963 because homosexuality wasn't even decriminalised until 1967.

DECEMBER 2019 - DR WHO 1963

We explored the science fiction genre in December with a comparison and contrast of MEDIA LANGUAGE (mise-en-scene & cinematography) and REPRESENTATIONS in Dr Who, 'An Unearthly Child' 1963 & Class, Co-owner of a lonely heart 2016. Key Points: 1. This is for PAPER 2 - you watch a clip and answer questions. 2. It's not as simple as saying, 'in the past it was unfair, now it's fair'; there are many COMPLEXITIES - e.g. The sexual revolution of the 1960s etc. 3. You need to know the names of all the characters when discussing representations.
